When I ‘link’ to Omnidrive one of my files/folder from my machine, does that copy my file/folder to Omnidrive or does is completely move it to Omnidrive from my machine?

‘Link’ to Omnidrive means coping to Omnidrive. The files on your computer will still be there, while the copy of it would be stored on Omnidrive.

If I delete file/folder from my machine (but previously had it saved on Omnidrive) does that mean that will be deleted from Omnidrive too?

No, the file/folder you delete from your machine will still remain in your Omnidrive account. Any modifications done on your machine will not make any changes to file stored on Omnidrive. If you decide to free up your machine space, you can backup all your files to Omnidrive (make sure the uploading is completed) and free up your machine space without any worries. You will still be able to access your files through Omnidrive desktop client or through web. However if you wish to delete that specific file/folder you will have to log into your Omnidrive account and delete it from there.

Omnidrive for WebDAV

Why am I having problems setting up WebDAV under Windows?

There is a bug in Windows XP and Vista which needs to be patched before trying to map a WebDAV drive. The fix can be found here.

I am trying to use WebDAV on Mac OSX and I can’t upload any files, what’s going on?

Later versions of OSX (after 10.3) changed their implementation of WebDAV causing Omnidrive users to fail when trying to add files and folders. Omnidrive WebDAV was updated for version 0.8 and should work well.

Partner API

Is there an API?

Yes, Omnidrive has an API. Developers have the options of using WebDAV, REST, SOAP or just plain RSS to get data in and out of users Omnidrive. If you would like to take part in our API, please see our Developer Wiki HomePage.

Do I need to have an account with Omnidrive to be able to access Omnidrive’s API?
Yes you do, as the access to our API will be activated through your registered Omnidrive account.
Can I become a partner with Omnidrive?
Yes, you sure can as Omnidrive has different partner options available. The first option is for those of you who would like to use Omnidrive as a backend for you own applications. For this option you will make use of the Omnidrive API to integrate you applications. Next, if you have an existing site or service, or your own customers, you can talk to us about selling Omnidrive to your own users. We are also looking for applications that we think might interest our own Omnidrive users, so if you have an application that you believe all Omnidrive users could make use of, please contact us at partners@omnidrive.com.

Does the Partner API involve any setup costs?
Setup costs are none to minimal depending on how involved you would like the Omnidrive team to be. Our API is FREE to all Omnidrive registered users. If you’d like some extra support, our developers and development support teams can work with you on an hourly or daily rate.

Omnidrive Folders and Files

Is the process of sharing folders and files the same?
Yes. The process of sharing files and folders is the same.

How can I share files with everybody on the web?
To make files public:

  1. Select a file
  2. Right click on it and select ‘Actions’ then Publish’
  3. Right click again and select ‘Properties’
  4. A window will pop up with properties for that file and a URL that you can use

Can I share files/folder with non-Omnidrive users?
You sure can, simply share it to an ‘email’ address instead of UserID. The process is the same, right click on the file/folder you wish to share, from the options list select ‘Action’ followed by ‘Share’ and then enter the email address of the person with whom you wish to share the file with and select ‘OK’. The person with whom you shared the file with will immediately received an email notification of the file/folder being shared and the link to download it will be included in that email.

When I share a file with someone, can they view it first on the web before downloading it?
Currently no - if you share to an email address. If you share it to UserID, the other Omnidrive user will be able to view the file/folder by selecting ‘Neighborhood’ from their folder list, followed by the folder named after your UserID. By accessing that folder they will be able to view the file/folder before downloading it.

When I share a folder or a file with somebody, is that person notified when that file is modified?
Not currently. However we are working on this feature.

Security

How is my data secured to prevent accidental loss or unauthorized access?
Omnidrive is built on a backend platform that makes redundant copies of your files, encrypts your files and has a strong permissions system that allows only you, the file owner, to read the files (or in the case of a shared file, only the users the file has been shared with).

Are files encrypted and compressed on the fly?
Files are encrypted and compressed on the server in a process that is completely transparent to users. In future versions of the desktop clients, files and content will be encrypted on the client prior to being sent to the server. This ensures a high level of security.

Does Omnidrive use secure tunneling to transfer data?
All communication with the server is over a secure and encrypted connection. Some beta users currently only have normal HTTP, but we will be moving all of your accounts over shortly.

If I’m using Omnidrive, where is my data being kept, really?
At the moment, Omnidrive has three Data Center locations: Dallas, New Jersey and Montreal. Soon we’ll have at least six more.

Is there a disaster recovery site?
Omnidrive’s cluster works between our co-location centers so replicas of files are stored between physical locations automatically.

Account Features

How much storage do I get?

Public beta users are allocated 1GB storage for free. Users have an option to upgrade to one of our Pro packages on the signup page, as well as try the free version first and then upgrade later.

What happens if I decide I want more storage?

If you have a Free account, simply upgrade to one of our three (3) available Pro Packages. To upgrade using web interface select ‘Upgrade’ from right hand top side and follow the instructions. If you wish to upgrade through desktop client, right click on folder background and from the options list select ‘Properties’ and next to Account Type select the link ‘Upgrade to Pro account’ and follow the instructions.

NOTE: If you require more storage then provided in our Pro Package 3, simply email us at support@omnidrive.com

What do I do if I want to cancel my account?

For all Pro accounts we will process full refund within 30-days of purchase date, only if there are technical issues from our side that we can not fix.

To close any Omnidrive account (Free or Pro) at any time, please email support@omnidrive.com

Will I be able to host video files or music?
Currently Omnidrive has a built-in music player. We are developing video transcoding technology that will allow you to share video files from any codec to other users who will be able to play them either with their normal media player or using our web-based flash player.

Do you have any blog or wiki features?
Omnidrive on its own allows users to store and share files, as well as to stream media files to any user on any platform from any codec. However, for blog or wiki functionality, we currently have a number of partners working with our API to provide these features.

When partners launch products they will be announced on our soon-to-launch community site. With a large number of partners either building on top of, or integrating with Omnidrive, we will be able to give our users a number of options when it comes to value-added functionality such as blogging or wiki features.
